Lovely cottage in a lovely spot!
My husband, daughter and I stayed for three nights at Sparrow’s Nest and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. We arrived in a big rental car but were still able to park on the property behind gates. (We also could have parked on the street side where there is a paved pull-out). The cottage has the most wonderful views over the garden, past the tree-lined fields and on to the rolling wooded hills. All this beautiful landscape means there is much wildlife to watch, including a nightly visit by a couple of badgers! The cottage offered all we could need, with a cozy sitting room, a separate dining room off the kitchen, a downstairs loo, plus a full bathroom upstairs where the two bedrooms are. The kitchen is well-equipped (even has a washing machine) and there are lots of little details throughout to help make the stay enjoyable, including lots of information about local walks and points of interest. The hosts make the cottage even lovelier with vases of fresh flowers everywhere (picked from their own garden I’m sure) and, as they live next door, are available and happy to answer questions and give advice about what to see and do. We loved exploring the Dawlish area, but also used the cottage as a base to make day trips to St. Michael’s Mount and St. Ives in Cornwall. Glastonbury in Somerset was also an easy day trip from this spot. We need to return as there are so many beautiful and interesting places to see. When we do, we would definitely hope Sparrow’s Nest is available because it’s the perfect little holiday spot.

Great place to stay
We had a lovely week staying at Sparrows Nest. Ideal location and great views. The cottage is comfortable and certainly met our needs very well. Devon cream teas, milk, flavoured water and fresh picked flowers in every room, were all awaiting our visit, left by the very generous hosts. There’s a lot to see and do in the area, lovely beaches and the ferry trip to Exmouth was a delight. Many thanks to Carol and Barry for an excellent stay.

Enjoyable week at Sparrows Nest
We had a lovely time at Sparrows Nest. The house is in a good location for exploring around Dawlish. The house is equipped with everything you may need and lots of nice touches such as wild flowers and homemade scones. We would definitely go back.

Dawlish delights
Travelling west by rail around 100 years ago, you might have glanced to the right near the harbour at Cockwood and seen hundreds of beautiful violets. It’s a tradition that has slipped from modern memory, but, just a mile from the harbour, our hosts for the week had upheld the tradition so well that an expert in Dorset had even named a type of violet in her honour! Why does this matter? Well, if you want a cosy cottage owned by people who genuinely care about the area, rather than a tourist trap owned by a big company, this would be a wise choice. The space to the rear of the property is possibly due to the fact this was built as a ‘Home for a Hero’ so as to provide a plot to make a living on return from WW2. The lighthouse theme throughout the property shows an excellent attention to detail, and we arrived to find a lovingly prepared Devon Cream Tea ready and waiting on the dining room table!! While the hosts are conveniently close at hand, they never interfere with your stay, unless asked, striking exactly the right balance. Top marks all round.

Perfect holiday getaway you won’t want to miss!!
Upon our arrival we were greeted by fresh flowers in every room. A fridge with milk and butter along with a full cream tea of homemade scones, jam and clotted cream was a welcome surprise. Immaculately clean with everything possible provided for, a real “home from home”. Clean bedding and towels are included along with a clean set of each for our second week. We would highly recommend Sparrows Nest as the perfect setting to explore South Devon with everything in easy reach. Thank you Carol and Barry for being such perfect hosts. We will definitely be back again

Relaxing cottage with lovely garden  5* of 5

A very pretty cottage with plenty of space for 4. Carol and Barry made us feel very welcome. There were home made scones, clotted cream and jam on our arrival plus flowers in every room. We had apples and blackberries from the orchard which were delicious. As I have mobility problems having a downstairs toilet was also a plus. We found the whole stay very relaxing and enjoyable but just a few minutes away from local amenities and Dawlish town centre. We relaxed in the lovely cottage garden in the evenings surrounded by countryside. I would definitely recommend this cottage, Carol and Barry are excellent hosts and we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. We will return!

Spacious and very well equipped. Easily sleeps 4 adults. 5* of 5

We had a short stay for 4 nights. The cottage is very well placed for visiting Dawlish Warren and all the resorts along the coast up to Paignton. For £5 per adult and £1 for a dog you can have all day return tickets on a bus from Dawlish Warren, through Dawlish, Holcombe, Teignmouth, Maidencombe, Babbacombe, Torquay and finally Paignton. It was a nice break for the driver!

During our stay we had fantastic walks along the sandy beach even as far as the mouth of the River Exe opposite Exmouth. We ate out on two occasions, at The Welcome Inn and Mount Pleasant Inn, both in Dawlish Warren. Both places were very welcoming and dog friendly. The quality of food at both pubs surpassed my expectations of pub food even though both places were very busy. If going for lunch on a Sunday it is worth booking in advance.

Beautiful cosy cottage, ideal for touring around the Devon Coast.  5*of 5

What a lovely cottage, clean cosy homely, just what we wanted, it did not dissappoint atall we loved it. It was close to the coast and Exeter for shopping if wanted. The only thing wrong was our stay was only a short one would loved to have stayed longer, maybe next time as I hope we visit again. Highly recommended. The cream tea was a nice welcome sight too.

Lovely, well situated    5* of 5

Well equipped property with everything you could desire (even a washing machine which maybe you don’t desire). On the ground floor are separate lounge and diner as well as kitchen and as loo. Upstairs, two comfortable bedrooms and a bathroom in which you could hold a party. Outside, a nice fenced garden – great for the kids. Parking fine. It’s on a main road but no problem. Supermarket about 2 minutes drive away; bus stop about 2 minutes walk. Great scones on arrival!

Cosy accommodation for holiday in Dawlish  5* of 5

Sparrow’s Nest is a lovely holiday cottage very close to Dawlish. It was clean & comfortable for our week’s stay. The owners are welcoming & we enjoyed the cream tea awaiting our arrival.

The cottage is in a lovely location with a idyllic garden to use & fields all around and there are local walks to be enjoyed.

The cottage facilities are ideal for self-catering and the beds were very comfortable for a great nights sleep after a long day resting on the local beach.

We highly recommend Sparrow’s Nest and look forward to returning again in the future.

Spacious, very clean, thoughtfully equipped house.  4* of 5

The location of the property is good for visiting moors and beaches.

Lovely towns nearby.

Cottage is spacious and clean with lots of handy extra’s such as adapters for visitors from the continent, thermosflasks, lots of information about the area.

Very friendly and caring owners.

Good views over the hills from the backgarden.

We had to adapt to the speed of the wifi and the low water pressure. Apart from that a perfect stay.
